Themed Experience Seminar, Fall 2023
Professor: Patrick Brennan, Former VP of Walt Disney Imagineering
Given the task to create a themed experience with various mini-games, I designed a multi-layered hockey adventure that introduces guests to the core fundamentals of the sport through interactive gameplay. This experience is built to be both accessible and rewarding — with mini-games that are easy to pick up but offer depth and challenge for those who seek mastery. As players move through the attraction, they begin by learning the essentials: puck control, body checking, and precision shooting. Each skill-based challenge builds upon the last, encouraging growth and competition in a fun, energetic environment. The progression of these games allows players to develop their skills at their own pace, all while engaging in a high-energy, hockey-themed setting that blends physical movement, intuitive gameplay, and immersive design.

Exterior Building Sketch
The show building was designed with a three-dimensional stick and puck on the exterior, with front-facing windows to allow passersby to view inside the facility. Players who enter play themed mini-games, and the games can be completed multiple times throughout the period. Guests progress further into each room, where they get to complete each game.

"Pick Your Path" Sketch
Start in the "Pick your Path" room, guests can choose their desired level of challenge by selecting from three distinct colored zones: red, green, and blue. Each color represents a different skill level, allowing players to tailor their own experience. Guests can ensure a personalized and immersive experience from the very beginning.

The Games
Designed to teach the basic values of hockey, yet still entertaining, these mini-games are inherently easy to learn, yet hard to master. Teaching you the basics, starting with puck control, checking, and then finishing with target practice.

The Big Game
The end of the experience consists of “The Big Game”, a 1v1 rally to complete each of the games played in training rooms. The winner must accrue more points during the time limit than their opponent. This final game allowed players to experience the feeling of playing the sport, with an exciting feeling of pressure.
